Artist Talk: Aiko Tezuka

Die japanische Künstlerin Aiko Tezuka dekonstruiert Textilien, um neue Bildformen zu schaffen. Die Meiji-Restauration, mit der sich Japan vor 150 Jahren zum Westen öffnete, ist für Tezuka von zentraler Bedeutung. Die Künstlerin blickt wehmütig auf das verlorene, vormoderne Japan. Zugleich entwickelt sie zentrale Elemente der japanischen Ästhetik weiter.

Im Rahmen der Ausstellung Ein Bild für den Kaiser – Japanische Arbeiter auf Zuckerplantagen in Hawai’i. Die Teilnahme ist im regulären Eintrittspreis inbegriffen. Das Gespräch findet in englischer Sprache statt.

 

Japanese artist Aiko Tezuka deconstructs textiles to create new pictorial forms. She views the Meiji Restoration, with which Japan opened itself to the West 150 years ago, as a highly significant cultural-historical moment. The artist looks wistfully to a lost, pre-modern Japan while continuing to develop key elements of Japanese aesthetics.
